DESCRIPTION: EPW - Unsigned Swiss, two-train dual time traveler's watch with "Independent Seconds" marked cuvette, 59mm, heavy 14K gold or better (tested, exhibiting fade of 18K solution on stone, no fade of 14K solution) original HC with misleading "18" hallmark, spectacular equestrian engraving detail including two galloping racehorses to front and two racing sulkies to rear, signed gold cuvette bearing attributes, KWKS, lever escapement, marked as 21J, gilt mvt, s#20388 within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 88.0 dwt (136.9 g). Currently in need of overhaul, but a spectacular piece with very impressive in-hand effect and sure to be a favorite for the fan of horse racing.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound, likely broken balance staff, case band has no provision for a stop/start independent-seconds function but lower button of case pendant can be rotated and we suspect this may be meant to engage a stop/start functionality though we have not disassembled to confirm, overhaul needed, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, toning of barrels and few areas of plate surfaces; dial with hl from lower-left edge to upper edge, fine scratch to lower portion of right side timekeeping register; excellent hands overall, subsidiary seconds-hand with oxide; case shows very little wear, mild shallow ding to rear located in area somewhat above horse's heads, excellent engraving detail, case front with frequent tendency to open inadvertently but appears to be caused only by a taller than appropriate plastic crystal and with bezel removed the lid remains closed without issue; tight bow, push shows very little wear; plastic crystal is taller than appropriate causing case lid to frequently pop open and this crystal should be discarded and replaced with an appropriate glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $3000 - $4000
